How José Abreu signing reflects philosophical change for Houston Astros

PRESENTED BY COORS LIGHT

The Astros signed José Abreu to a big 3-year contract this week, and a lot has been made of the team's willingness to add a third year to Abreu's deal considering he'll be 38 years old in 2025.

The Astros were also willing to go three years on reliever Rafael Montero's contract this offseason.

Does this mean owner Jim Crane is willing to take more chances than his previous GM's, or is this just the price of doing business this offseason in free agency, one year removed from the lockout?
