PLAYING THE PONIES

Sam Houston Race Park selections for Wednesday, March 4

Here are my selections for Wednesday at Sam Houston Race Park. These are not meant to be in exact order, but merely the four horses I think have the best chance to win. For beginners, I suggest exacta boxes with three horses, using two of mine and one of your own. And you can always pick up a copy of Acing Racing 2016 to learn everything you need to know. (These are the picks and format that are available on the free tip sheet at SHRP).

Are Houston Texans fans too optimistic about the current rebuild of the team under Texans GM Nick Caserio? Should Texans fans be more concerned about several key issues?

For instance, Texans fans would view the Deshaun Watson trade very differently if his legal issues hadn't become such a problem. Also, the Texans have had two botched coaching searches recently and no other NFL team interviewed David Culley or Lovie Smith for a head coach position recently, but Texans fans see the Lovie hire as a win. And rightfully so. He's certainly a more qualified candidate compared to Josh McCown. But if McCown is the measuring stick, that's clearly a concern.

Finally, will the next elite player the Texans develop want out like Deshaun Watson?

ESPN Houston's Cody Stoots and Mike Meltser debate on The Wheelhouse.
