After a slow start to free agency for the Houston Texans, GM Nick Caserio caught everyone by surprise when he opted to trade for Bengals running back Joe Mixon.
While the Packers and the Eagles decided to break the bank for Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley, Houston is going with a lower risk option in Mixon, who only has one more year left on his contract.
The Texans are also saving a lot of money this year at the position, as Mixon will only cost them $5.75 million.
Tuesday, on First Take, Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe discuss what they like about the deal for Houston.
“I like Joe Mixon a lot. I think this is a loss for the Cincinnati Bengals," said Smith.
He went on to discuss how he appreciates the fact that Mixon has over a thousand yards rushing in two of his last three seasons. He's been durable, and has rushed for over 1,000 yards four times in his seven-year career.
The Texans lost Devin Singletary in free agency to the Giants, so the team needed another back to go along with Dameon Pierce.
Sharpe concluded by saying, “I like the Houston Texans and what they have done thus far.”
